Staying with a Host Family

If you would like to live in a Spanish-speaking environment, we advise you to choose a homestay, which involves living with a local family, sharing meals and facilities and practicing your Spanish in a traditional and friendly environment.

The homestay accommodation is on a half-board basis which usually consists of a light, "continental" breakfast and a substantial lunch. An evening meal can sometimes be offered instead of lunch by arrangement with the family.

However, you should remember that lunch is traditionally the main meal of the day and the moment when the family tends to get together - your best chance to practise your Spanish!

Living in host family you will:

Have the opportunity to practice your Spanish in the most realistic everyday situations
Have the support of the host family during your stay
Learn about Spanish customs and way of life
Eat Spanish food at Spanish mealtimes!
Have a unique experience

However, every good thing comes with a price to pay! Living in someone’s else’s home requires a great deal of tact and flexibility. After all you want to get to know the Spanish way of life, not have the Spanish family adapt their lifestyle to yours, even if they could! If you are prepared to make this effort the rewards can be great.
